Hi Ed,

I did notice that Komen did not make a reversal, yet it seems most are under the impression that they have. One only has to go to Komen's source documents, which they have published, to read the truth. As you said earlier, "Satan can disguise himself in many “socially conscious” ways." I find it sad that so many have been fooled.

Thank you for helping to set the record straight.

Hi Wendy,

I glanced quickly over through the link you submitted, thanks for providing it. The important thing I noticed was how the writer continued to say that Komen had a reversal, thus making Komen look bad and indecisive and yielding to Planned Parenthood, when in fact it made no such reversal. As my next post pointed out, every organization should be free to give it's grant money to whomever it wants and what Planned Parenthood and its supporters did was throw a fit when someone dared to say that PP was not up to their standards.

I believe the truth is that PP needs the legitimacy of association with Komen to maintain their facade of being a "women's health care clinic." The truth is the Komen grants didn't amount to a whole lot of money compared to PP's entire revenue stream and whatever services PP did provide could have been provided from other revenue sources. That's the truth we need people to see.

I'm not necessarily trying to defend Komen, I'm just trying to help people see the truth about Planned Parenthood.

Thank you for your words which help to make sense of the world in which we live and esecially of this Komen/Planned Parenthood issue. I read the Huffington Post article, at the link below, after the previous comment to find further information about what JW mentioned, and was heartened as I remembered this portion of your post, while I read the comments following the article:

"We’ve seen in this ugly media-driven story that Satan can disguise himself in many “socially conscious” ways…this time he disguised himself as support for the abstract and misleading concept of “women’s health.” Even the apostle John warned of the need to be discerning when it comes to the world’s messaging; “They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”(—1 John 4:5-6) But this is nothing new. Jesus Himself said “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (–Matthew 10:16) But this same Jesus brings consolation when He says, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (–John 16:33)]"

I'm one of those people that contributed to that $3million Planned Parenthood pot and I have a few thoughts about this. While I'm on the other side of the fence from most of your readers (obviously) I still have respect for those who may disagree with me and are working within their conscience. We each fight the good fight from our respective positions. But as for Komen, I think it has become obvious that their sole interest is to maintain market share. While Planned Parenthood is transparent in their advocacy and their belief system, Komen has done all it could to obscure the same. Why else would it take this sort of firestorm to reveal that Ari Fleischer is doing their job-searches and pro-life gubernatorial candidates are at the helm? Ok, so be it, but why didn't they just stick to their guns and tell the rest of us to stuff it? Because they may be on that side, sort of, but what they're really interested in is maintaining their market share as a major player... and they'll throw anyone under the bus to maintain that position. I was one of those runners in their races, and won't be in the future- but not because of the PP thing. I won't be running for them because they have revealed that their primary mission is to preserve themselves and their lofty status, and yet they have no respect for their backer's beliefs, nor even their own beliefs, as long as they can dominate the pink-ribbon world.

Respectfully, JW

Agreeing with Jim, I'm an older Girl Scout that found this page on accident while researching to give a presentation on WAGGGS' four world centers, and the Girl Scouts organization, unlike our counterpoint for the boys, does not have a specific stance we force onto girls or their families as that is very much a personal matter. However, something you seem to have missed in your blog posts on the Girl Scouts is that the Girl Scouts is not a Christian or Catholic organization, and has no priority to enforce a set of "Catholic/Christian ethics". Of course you are entitled to your beliefs about what is wrong, right, moral or otherwise, but the Girl Scouts derides much of what it talks about (and there are very specific guidelines for being able to discuss sexuality, safe sex, things of that nature) from a humanistic and medical standpoint, not to mention guidelines set up by the UN and associated organizations. You might disagree, and you are certainly welcome to try and spread a boycott of the Girl Scouts if that is what you feel you need to do, but the ethics you endorse are not by any measure the agreed upon correct morals or the morals that need to be forced upon anyone else. By simply telling girls the hard facts (something that can only even be done with parents explicit permission, and yes, sometimes mistakes - like the pamphlet being handed out - do happen) this enables the girls to then discuss with their family/spiritual leader/other people in their lives what they personally feel is the correct course of action for living their lives.

I've read the pamphlet, and obviously you disagree, but their is a very recognized right for sexual and reproductive health that the pamphlet advocates. Teaching people how to live with issues that regularly cause conflict in the lives of those afflicted helps them to live safely and without unnecessary burden. Contrary to your beliefs, Planned Parenthood does not advocate abortion on the go, but recognizes it is a difficult decision and offers a safe procedure that will not harm any parties physically (except for the rare accidents, of course). Planned Parenthood also does not advocate keeping sexual activity a secret from those involved, as you indicated while quoting “You should find out whether there are any centers near to you where you can go without needing the permission of your parents or guardians.”, but recognizes (like most STD facilties and health clinics) that oftentimes teenagers need to be able to check on STD's and other health information without their parents, or just that they would be too scared to get checked if their parents knew.

Parental Advisory: sexual innuendo contained in this reply.

Thanks for asking, Jason. Here's one of many possible scenarios.

Young children are very susceptible to influence by other children or adults. Sometimes, children who are sexually abused don't necessarily know that what they are doing, or what is being done to them, is wrong or harmful.

So let's say an older child (we'll call him "Billy") tells a younger child (we'll call him "Johnny") that they're going to play a game. The first step of the game is for Johnny to ask the school nurse for a condom. She is not allowed to ask questions and cannot even note that Johnny received a condom. According to this policy the nurse definitely cannot tell Johnny's parents that she gave him a condom.

The next step is for Billy to tell Johnny that they're going to play a game with the condom and see what they can use it for. I'll leave it up to your imagination.

The final step is for Billy to tell Johnny that this is their little secret and that Johnny should tell no one. In fact, if Johnny tells anyone, even his parents, then Billy won't be able to play with him anymore. So Johnny doesn't tell anyone, not even his parents, and he keeps getting condoms from the school nurse; and he and Billy keep playing their little game with Billy's stick.

By having a veil of secrecy and not recording who gets these condoms and by not allowing parents to opt their children out of the program, the stage has been set for a sexual predator to hide in plain sight. And the same might happen to little "Joanne."

It absolutely astounds me that people who claim to be female rights advocates consistently go out of their way to exploit the vulnerabilities of the people that they are supposed to be protecting.

I have always been wary of the girl scouts, but to be fair, it's because I believe that the secret ingredient in their cookies is human souls. While not an airtight case yet, I am chalking their partnership with PP as evidence of their evil!

Perhaps you have not read about Jawad Pasha and Muhammad Hussain Kakar of Pakistan. We are able to tell you very different story. This is true that some of these are known as conscious after scanning. But we are experiencing the wonderful recovery through simple methods without any medication. We are also successful to control their seizures/fits . Actually we could not find any role of a neurologist in case of Persistent Vegetative or Minimally Conscious State.

On the contrary Phil, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) of which GSUSA is a big member, does take a stance on family planning and sex education, and does not simply leave it to families and the girls do decided for themselves.
You can see for yourself what the WAGGGS delegates were openly advocating for, including safe, universal abortion for all young people, on the WAGGGS webpage and their onwn postings on the recent Commission on the Status of Women at http://www.wagggsworld.org/en/CSW54/Day6 and the position that WAGGGS supports and acvocates for.

Phil, thanks for your comment. I ask you to please read the brochure in question (there is a link in the post). The brochure has nothing to do with "family planning," rather, it has everything to do with promoting promiscuity. Among other things, the brochure encourages people who are HIV positive NOT to tell their partners of their status, thereby putting their sexual partners' lives in danger; and the brochure also encourages girls to have sex while drunk or on drugs without telling of the risks such as being incapable of making a conscious decision or being vulnerable to an assault by a predator (quoted from brochure): "Some people have sex when they have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. This is your choice."

I disagree with your statement that their silence doesn't mean anything. The fact that they are trying to disassociate themselves from the distribution of the brochures says they are are fearful that the content of the brochure will damage their reputation. It's a red herring to make a big deal about how the brochures were distributed but remain silent on the content of the brochure itself. If they think the content could harm their reputation, and they are not in agreement with the content, then why wouldn't they say that publicly in order to mitigate the damage to their reputation?

The Girl Scouts' silence on the content implies agreement with the content, which means they have taken a stance on sexual activity by adolescent girls. And I don't prefer it that way as I have young female family members who will be at risk physically, emotionally, and spiritually if exposed to this kind of sexual aggrandizement.
