Fifty Shades of Deceptive Grey

Ezerwoman's Blog

50 shades of greyold fashioned movieIt has been said that good is opposed to evil in such a way that a good thing always eliminates evil as far as it can.

This Valentine’s weekend, we have the opportunity to choose a good thing and, in doing so, help eliminate evil as far as we can. I can promise you that our sons, daughters, and grandchildren will be better for it.

Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the book trilogy, will be showing this weekend in theaters across the country. But, in my hometown (and perhaps in yours), so will the movie Old Fashioned. The contrast between the two is black and white. The one slides into evil. The other strives for what is good.

The contrast, I think, is best illustrated by the leading man in each story. Men fascinate me, perhaps because I believe that God has created them to be the defenders…

#50Shades of Shame – Women, Pornography & the Church

The Facebook page has over 8 MILLION likes. But then, depravity has its minions. 50 Shades of Grey book and movie is the latest so-called ‘mommy porn’ that has also made its way to the women of the Church, and quite easily. How did Christian women get to that point?

Everything starts somewhere, there is a beginning to everything…pornography addiction, women and the church is no exception.

A preteen sees her grandmother reading paperback novels every day. Having never been a ‘reader’, this preteen asks about the books Grandma reads all the time. Grandma says that it’s nothing important, just something to while away the time. She had many hours to fill since she was wheelchair-bound, over 65 and on a fixed income. She said that she and her friends and neighbors would trade books all the time so they wouldn’t have to buy any. But the funny thing was….that…

A letter to our young Christian women

Wonderful thoughts from my friend Adriane Heins to the young ladies of our times.

Hey.

Being a girl can be hard. Being a Christian girl can be even harder. But in the midst of a time and a place where femininity and humility and, well, normalcy are rare, you stand out like a city girl at a rodeo.

In a good way.

There are days when staying the course feels hard, and it seems like you’re the only one left that’s standing for something, for anything.

But you’re not. In Christ, you are never alone. And while you journey on in this broken world, or sally forth as my pastor likes to say, let me give you a few words of encouragement as a woman who used to be a high school student (read: nerd) myself.

5. Don’t freak out about what you’re going to do after college.

The world and your teachers and your peers are going to press in hard. They…

The LCMS and American Heritage Girls

The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with American Heritage Girls to work together to encourage and nurture American Heritage Girls troops within the LCMS. This is wonderful news, as I’ve long supported American Heritage Girls as an alternative to the Girl Scouts (read An Alternative to the Girl Scouts) due to the opposing principles of Christians and the Girl Scouts’ national organization (read More Dubious Connections to the Girl Scouts, Time to Stop Buying Girl Scout Cookies, The Girl Scouts and Their Ungodly Agenda, If it Seems Like I’m Picking on the Girl Scouts…, The Girl Scouts Deny the Allegations, What are the Girl Scouts Supporting?, and Where Do Your Dollars Go?).

The MOU states, in part:

The LCMS recommends AHG because it is faith-based. The MOU states, “WHEREAS: The American Heritage Girls program is centered on the same principles, and partners with the local LCMS church to assist and support girls through spiritual development, life skill enhancement, development of teamwork, social skills, citizenship, girl leadership skills while building confidence and discovering their identity in Christ.”

“Therefore be it RESOLVED, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and American Heritage Girls will work together, within the guidelines of the policies and regulations of each organization to establish and nurture American Heritage Girls Troops within The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod so that girls may be provided with life skills, leadership development opportunities, service programs, and character building opportunities.”

Maybe it’s just me, but…if you’re a Christian you really need to stop supporting the Girl Scouts (and Planned Parenthood, sexual promiscuity, and abortion) and start supporting a faith-based organization that has the same foundation and principles that you do.

Read the press release from the LCMS about the agreement.

My “Thesis” Is Published!

My good friend, Linda Bartlett, has written a must-read book for all parents, educators, and anyone who is concerned about abortion. She tackles the foundation of how our society has gotten to where it is regarding attitudes towards sex, marriage, and, ultimately, the value (or lack thereof) of human life.

My book cover Without fanfare or ceremony, the deed is done!  I have just completed nearly two years of writing a book.

On May 2, 2014, it was officially published and made available on Amazon.  There is enough left in my well of words to say “thank you” to an extraordinarily patient and helpful support team.  You know who you are.

The title of the book is The Failure of Sex Education in the Church: Mistaken Identity, Compromised Purity.  It is not the book I dreamed of writing.  It is the book I was compelled to write after thirty years of working with and listening to parents and the children they care about.

The book is 250 pages with over 230 footnotes.  No, I’m not in graduate school, but yes, this is my thesis. It is a dissertation that covers more than the controversial subject of sex education.  It explains how humanists…
